Pioneer has begun the shipment of its 50-inch 1080p Plasma TV, the Elite PureVision PRO-FHD1 model. This HD-Ready TV was first introduced at the CES 2006 event in January. Retailed for a cool ten thousand bucks ($10,000), Pioneer claims that this Plasma TV offers the world’s smallest plasma pixels (at just .576mm) which is almost half of the normal size of those found on other plasma TVs, thus making it possible to fit more than 2 million pixels on this 50-inch HDTV. Furthermore, in addition of the fine detail and vibrant color, it also creates a near natural 3D effect for the entire range of HD signals, including 720p, 1080i and 1080p.
The depth of picture, particularly when viewing original content in 1080p/24Hz, such as a movie on Blu-ray Disc, gives a truly 3-D effect. Viewers can see tiny beads of sweat on an athlete’s face as well as the stitches on the football as it flies through the air. Some say it makes it easier to tell when the lead actor takes a break and lets the stunt double take over.
